I. Training Target 1. Gain strong clinical analysis and thinking ability, be able to treat common diseases in the certain fields, be able to provide professional guidance to subordinate physicians, and reach the level of senior clinical residency. 2. Obtain firm foundation theory and systematic professional knowledge. 3. Learn essential method of clinical scientific research, combined with knowledge of clinical practice, to accomplish one academic dissertation and get the approval of thesis supervisory authority. 4. be fluent of one foreign language, and have the ability to read academic research articles in this language. III. Period of Schooling The education system is 3 years. After students finishing the main training content in first stage (degree course study, the secondary discipline basic clinical skills training), the stage assessment will be carried out in the mid-term of the first semester in the second academic year. The eligible students can proceed with other study programs continuously; unqualified students will have to rebuild the courses. IV. Course Arrangement and Credit Courses are supposed to be completed in the first academic year. The minimum credit requirement is 17 credits and 7 courses. The teaching and examination of public compulsory courses, specialized core courses and specified elective courses will be organized by Graduate School and School of Medicine uniformly. Students are required to finish them in the first academic year. Specialized courses and specialized English are responsible for each clinical college and discipline director, and will be finished during clinical duration in the first academic year. It is necessary to submit the examination results before the assessment begins (mid-term assessment). The teaching method of specialized courses and specialized English combines self-learning under the supervisors’ guidance with special lectures. Students are required to attend examination in the end of second semester. For the detailed course arrangement please refer to the attached curriculum. V. Academic Dissertation At this stage, postgraduate students develop training clinical ability and training clinical scientific research ability at the same time. The specific requirements are: to learn the basic scientific research method of literature retrieval, materials collecting, data processing in the training of clinical scientific research; to develop the ability of clinical scientific research and analytical skills; to complete a case analysis report (include literature review) reflecting clinical reality and focusing on summarizing the experience from clinical practice. Postgraduate students should utilize spare time to conduct scientific research. Academic research should not occupy clinical training time. The requirements for academic dissertation for the Clinical Medicine postgraduate students are as followed:
The selection of dissertation should closely reflect clinical reality, and focus on solving the problems during clinical practice work in this discipline. The research proposal demonstrates the postgraduate student’s ability to analyze and solve problems during the clinical work, and is used to inspect whether the student is adequately prepared for the dissertation. The main content of the the introducation includes reasons of topic selection, research status, trends in the field both domestic and overseas, personal detailed research plan, main bibliography, etc. The deadline of research proposal is the end of the second semester. Master degree’s dissertation should have certain new insights or new content. VI. Other Study Program Arrangement This stage is the secondary discipline basic clinical ability training; it focus on rotation of all secondary discipline majors. The clockship rotation of Internal Medicine should include Cardiology, Gastroenterology and Respiratory Departments. The clockship rotation of Internal Medicine should include General Surgery, Orthopedics, and Brain Surgery Departments. The students whose discipline are neither one of the above two, shall complete their rotation in at least one related department for three months. During secondary discipline rotation training, postgraduate students should finish 5 completed individual patient diagnosis case history (include inpatient case history, diagnosis and diagnosis data, treatment principle and treatment effect, prognosis and so on; 1 copy for each rotation department, 2 copies for his or her own discipline). Through the clinical ability training, students should possess the skills of basic diagnose, treatment techniques, reasons for common disease and frequently-occurring disease, pathogenesis, clinical manifestation, diagnose and differential diagnose, handing methods; Students should also learn how to handle outpatients and emergency treatment, how to receive patients and rescue critically ill patients, how to write medical record or the clinical teaching, etc. Lastly, students should cultivate rigorous scientific style and noble medical ethics. According to this regulation, postgraduate students should work out personal clinical training proposal which refer to “Clinical Skills Evaluation and Requirements for Clinical Medicine” issued by Ministry of Health and Office of Academic Degrees, to accomplish the work of clinical internship and participate in management of 5-8 beds under supervisors’ guidance. VII. Training Method The training of clinical postgraduate students focus on guidance by supervisor. A steering group composed of person in charge of the related department should be established according to Postgraduate Clinical Training Method. Under the unified arrangement of mentor, members of steering group are responsible for clinical training and assessment of clinical tasks. Physician can participate in the steering group and help to guide students in their clinical skills training. This training plan starts from the class of 2013 graduate students.
