Wuhan city is located in thecentral region of China and the middle reaches of Yangtze River. The thirdlongest river in the world, the Yangtze River and its largest tributary, theHan River run across the center of city, dividing it into three parts——Hanyang,Hankou and Wuchang.
Known as the “Nine ProvincesThoroughfares”, Wuhan is the largest water, land and air transportation hub inChina inland, and the shipping center in the middle reaches of Yangtze River.Its high-speed rail network covers most of Chinese cities, and Wuhan is theonly city in central China that can directly travel to five continents in theworld.
Wuhan Institute ofTechnology(WIT) is located in the heart of Wuhan, Optics Valley of China.
WIT has two campuses, the WuchangCampus and the Liufang Campus, both of which are full of blooming flowers,shading trees and twittering birds. It is recognized as the “Outstanding GreenUnit” and “BotanicalGarden-like Campus” in Hubei Province.
The university boasts itsadvanced teaching facilities, well-equipped teaching conditions and gracefulenvironment, which are beneficial to students to achieve their mighty ambitionand to soar above the dreaming sky.
Founded in June 1972, WuhanInstitute of Technology was originally named Hubei Petrochemical Institute, andrenamed Wuhan Institute of Chemical Technology in March 1980. It was officiallynamed Wuhan Institute of Technology in February 2006 through the approval ofthe Ministry of Education and Hubei Provincial Government.
WIT has developed into acomprehensive teaching and researching university, featuring engineering. Withnine disciplines covered, namely engineering, science, management, economics,culture, laws, arts, pharmaceutics and education, it is a chemical engineeringfeatured university amongst the "Double First-Class" UniversityProject of Hubei Province.
Wuhan Institute of Technologyprovides an overall education system with undergraduate, postgraduate andinternational education, obtaining the right of conferring bachelor degree,master degree and PHD. More than 130 thousand high-level talents have beennurtured in the university. Two disciplines, Chemistry and Materials Science,have ranked the 1% of the world's ESI currently. WIT also ranks 126thamong “2019 Best Universities of China” issued by Shanghai Ranking.
There are currently 2038faculties, among which 1226 are teaching and researching personnel with 243professors and 463 associate professors, accounting for 57.59% of the teachingand researching personnel.
With a large number of theNational Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Foundation and other national research projects, WIT has gainednumerous national awards of science and technology and patents of invention, contributingto local economic construction and social development of Hubei province.
Under a win-win strategy ofopening-up, WIT has actively participated in the diversified internationaleducation exchanges. The university has established a stable communication andcooperation in joint colleges, exchange programs of teachers and students andjoint researches with more than 40 universities and research institutions inthe United States, Britain, France, Australia, Canada, Ireland, Japan, Korea,Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, South Africa and other countries.
The number of students isincreasing steadily due to the outstanding work of international education inWIT. Since 2008, more than 1000 students from France, Australia, Malaysia,Singapore, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Ethiopia and other countries have been to WITas exchange students or have studied in Civil Engineering, MechanicalEngineering, Business Administration, International Education of ChineseLanguage and other preponderant science and arts disciplines.
Through theshort-term exchange programs and immersion programs with foreign universities,such as Georgia Gwinnet College in the United States, Curtin University inAustralia, University of Malaya in Malaysia and Ngee Ann Polytechnic inSingapore, wearecommittedto improving the people's understanding of Chinese language and culture,promoting the development of cultural diversity, and contributing to a moreharmonious world.
